THREE DECADES OF JEWELRY EXPERIENCE.
Orloff of Denmark was founded as 'Scandinavian Jewelry' in 1995 by Niels Orloff Ehrenskjöld, a GIA certified gemologist and jeweler who had spent years learning the trade the way it should be learned. Not in a classroom, but in the field. His first studio was in Phuket, Thailand, where he began designing and sourcing in the same breath, traveling to mines across East Africa, sitting with stone dealers in Tanzania and Kenya, handling tanzanite and tsavorite before most of the world knew what they were.
Those years gave Niels Orloff something that cannot be taught in a course. An instinct for what makes a stone genuinely fine as opposed to merely presentable.
That instinct has never left the business, and has been passed on to his son,
who now leads the company alongside him.
Curiosity.

Summer - 1998
Our love for colored gemstones is difficult to put into words.
You do not learn to evaluate a rough stone by reading about it. You learn by handling thousands of them, in places like this, with the same people who pulled them out of the earth.
Niels Orloff has been making trips like this one since before Orloff of Denmark had its name. The stones we present to you are a direct result of that.
Determination.
Niels Orloff in the old family house, working on a custom order.
Winter - 2006
Though his smithing days are over, Niels Orloff still personally oversees the quality control of our most valued pieces, never hesitating to point out any possible improvements that can be made.
He understands that this is where it all starts. Not in a showroom or behind a counter, but at a bench, under a loupe, with the work in your hands.
Identity.
The very first itteration of the Orloff of Denmark jewelry box and certificate holder.
Terrifically Scandinavian, our mix of dark navy and bright beechwood has never failed us and continues to serve us today. The first box looked very much like the ones we use now, which was not a coincidence. Our family crest in gold on navy has been there from the start, and the box has always been treated with the same attention as the piece inside it.
Knowledge.
The workbench where Viktor spent a lot of time observing, usually at the expense of his father's concentration.
Winter - 2006.
Though he didn't fully understand yet, Viktor loved sneaking in to Niels Orloff's office, rummaging through trays of loose gemstones and unfamiliar equipment.
The loupes, tweezers, and small paper packets that could contain anything.
Endeavor.
One of of our earliest jewelry showcases at the Stockholm Jewelry Fair.
Autumn - 2007
Niels Orloff knew that exposure to serious collectors requires being in the same room as them. The Stockholm Jewelry Fair was one of the earliest opportunities to do exactly that. To put the work in front of people who could evaluate it properly, and let the stones do the talking.
Expedition.
19-year-old Viktor in Chantaburi inspecting a gemstone using the same darkfield loupe his father used 29 years earlier.
Winter - 2022
Following in his father's footsteps, Viktor arrived in Chantaburi the way Niels Orloff had arrived in Ratnapura years before. Curious, attentive, and willing to spend as many hours as it took to understand what he was looking at.
The loupe was the same one.
The stones were different.
But the process was identical.
Prosperity.
